Politician, diplomat, businessman, and author Roberto Carpio Nicolle was president of the 1984-1986 Guatemalan Constitutional Assembly, vice president of Guatemala from 1986-1991, and the first president of the Central American Parliament (PARLACEN). Among his accomplishments are coordinating the Esquipulas I and II peace negotiations, and the Trifinio Plan for the region bordered by Guatemala, Honduras, and El Salvador.
